Looking for some guidance, thanks in advance!
I plan to become a board-certified clinical neuropsychologist, and I am currently on internship at an AMC in a neuropsychology track. However, my first internship rotation is mainly consultation-liaison, and I will only work with one neuropsychologist at my internship site this fall prior to submitting post doc applications. Due to this, I have questions about how to handle getting recommendations that will make me as competitive as possible. My first two recommendations will presumably be from 1) the one neuropsychologist I currently work with on internship, and 2) my academic adviser, who is not a neuropsychologist, but knows my research skills well. Who should the 3rd one be? Here are the options:
1) Another ABPP/CN neuropsychologist from internship: I would need to work extra hard and set up additional experiences to make this possible
2) My consult-liaison supervisor: C/L seems to be going really well, so I'm pretty sure I would get a strong rec
3) An ABPP/CN neuropsychologist I worked with on graduate school practica: I'm a little hesitant just because I did neuropsychology practica 2-3 years ago, so I feel like it's been a while at this point, but I did get a strong internship recommendation from this person
So, broadly, my question relates to the relative importance of 1) the field of the recommender (neuropsych or not) and 2) the recency with which we worked together.
