Seeking some confirmation that there aren't any neuropsych postdocs (specifically in VAs) in San Diego, CA or Portland, OR.

I'm surprised the San Diego VA doesn't have one since their internship program has a lot of neuropsych training opportunities. While I'm pretty sure the Portland VA doesn't currently have one either, searching Google makes me think that they used to?

I just want to make sure I'm not overlooking any potential sites in these locations since my spouse could relocate within the same company in these particular cities.

Thanks!

Portland VA has a polytrauma fellowship, which is a two year neuropsychology and PTSD fellowship. It meets the requirements for board certification. However, they only recruit every other year because of the fellowship length. I believe that this application year they would be recruiting.

I don't think the San Diego VA has one, but UCSD might. There also may be two year informal research fellowships in the VA that are geared towards neuropsych, depending on the year you apply.

Not to hijack the thread - But does anyone know if there are any neuro internships/post-docs in New Orleans? I'm thinking of the LSU school of medicine & Tulane/Loyola specifically. Is there an easy way to easily check all neuro internship & post-doc sites?

Division 40 used to have a database of neuro internships and postdocs. I haven't checked it in a while, so I don't know how up to date it is, but I would hope it's at least accurate as to the last cycle. That'd be a good place to start.

Unfortunately, I don't know if there are any formal neuro postdocs in Louisiana at all. There are of course neuropsychologists in/around New Orleans (e.g., Greve and Bianchini are both affiliated with LSU Health Sciences, I believe), but I don't know if they offer training spots. You could try looking them up and seeing if they have anything listed on their website(s), though. If not, they may know of opportunities in the area.

With neuro in particular, I'd personally be hesitant to try to piece together a fellowship experience if one weren't already in place with formalized didactics, multi-disciplinary collaboration, (ideally) some variety of referral sources/cases, and scheduled and structured supervision. It was probably the area of my training I was most willing to move for in order to get as many of the training opportunities I wanted as possible.

There are a few neuropsychologists in the New Orleans area, at least two affiliated with the children's hospital, though I don't believe there is a formal fellowship program at any of the hospitals.

I didn't realize that the NOLA VAMC had been out of commission since Katrina, but apparently a new VAMC is scheduled to open up in the next 1-2 years (I think it's been pushed back from 2013). I wonder if LSU or Tulane will take advantage of the VAMC to offer more neuropsych opportunities.

It's not out of commission per se, it's just not at a hospital. They still have an internship, as far as I know. I'm also fairly sure that they have some post docs.

APPCN also has a list of member programs, and provides additional information (generally up to date) for each: http://www.appcn.org/member-programs

I personally used both the Div. 40 and APPCN sites to form my initial list of potential fellowship sites, and then augmented with a few listserve and Monitor postings.

In case anyone is interested in San Diego, I found out the VA there has a new neuro postdoc. It's more research-focused than I'd like, but I figured I'd pass it along in case it fits someone else's training goals. (pdf attached)
