I've become addicted to this forum when my SO was studying for Step 1 and thought I would throw out a question to those of you who just finished taking Step 1 (btw, congrats Stinger and BigFrank!). Would you guys recommend doing any type of board prep during 1st year? I've heard it's a good idea to buy First Aid. Do you use it to help define what's important in the first 2 years? Are there other books that would be useful for eventual board prep? I know it's a long way down the road, but for crappy non-science major like myself every little bit helps!

😳

I dont even think doing much remembering of the 1st year is that important. About 80% of the material is straight from 2nd year and the rest is easily reviewable (brachial plexus stuff, etc.). I would learn now and memorize later.

and to add to this..u dont even have to memorize much later (during step 1 prep..). Much of the significant preclinical info for step 1 becomes commonplace after sufficient repitition......

I agree w. Idio. First year is very low yield in terms of the Step 1. Enjoy 1st year and crank it up in 2nd.

compared to everyone else, we take Pathology our 2nd semester 1st yr!!!! 😱 so u can say i've a lot to learn 1styr that will be needed on step 1!!

yeah...we had general path 2nd semester of first year also and incidentally this was heavily emphasized on my step 1. so my advise would be to learn this well when u take it....meaning?.actually investing some time in robbins/rubins..and saving the review books for later. This will aid u in understanding systemic path ...and also will be helpful for your boards. Those first few chapters of robbins and BRS PATH (gen path) made up a disproportionate amount of my step 1. Also annotate BRS?during this time
