This thread is for anybody that is considering giving up on Dental School. To start thing off, let me tell you that I have applied to dental school for 6 consecutive years. I am a student that has done fairly well in school 3.65 Overall GPA, 3.4 Science GPA. Then I met the DAT!!! (D*** Admissions Test). To make a long story short, I took it 4 times over 4 years (Not the best strategy) and used every prep course, book, or class that exists. I found Chad's videos to be themost helpful. Final scores 17AA, 18TS, 21PAT. Not what I was hoping for! In every interview that I went to it was always the same story. "Your application looks great, raise your DAT scores about 3 points and we might consider you." I had already taken the DAT 4 times and my scores were not getting any higher. I had to find a different way to make myself appealing to dental school's. That is when I took a job in a public health clinic. The job gave me a good perspective of both the medical and dental world, in addition to lots of experiences to talk about during my interviews. After six years of applying ( starting my Junior year of college) I was finally accepted on Dec 1,2011. In all honesty I'm not sure if it was the public health job or just the shear tenacity of continuing to apply and changing something each time I re-applied? What I do know is if dentistry is REALLY what you want, don't every give up on it.
Here is a little piece of advice for re-applicants:
Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.
