Hi,

I am confused about how we are sending our letter of recommendations in. If we have all our LORs in interfolio, do we need to contact the writers to send them to AACOMAS? Can we just send all the letters from interfolio to AACOMAS?

Need to upload letters of recommendation to an online application system?
We can upload confidential letters of recommendation directly to online application systems on behalf of your recommender. In your Dossier account, click on the letter you need to upload and copy the document email address. Then, paste that email address into the online application system when it asks you for your recommender’s email address. We will take it from there!

So this is what I did.
--I have an old interfolio account with all my letters in it.
--Click on any of the letter I interested, it will generate an email address looks like this [email protected]
--copy that to my aacomas letter request (you will need to type the correct writer's name), but you don't need to type the letter writer's email, instead, write the interfolio email I mentioned above.
--make up a due date and note(doesn't matter but I just put June 1st and note"letter from XXX")
--fingers crossed

According to instructions.

Q: Can I send letters of reference which are on file at Interfolio or a career center?
A: NO. All letters of reference must be completed via the AACOMAS reference website by the evaluator themselves. If you have letters stored at Interfolio, VirtualEval, or a career center, you may have these letters sent directly to your DO programs.

Yeah this was kind of a weird thing for me. I received all of my letters through Interfolio already. I'm going to attempt what becomingdoctor suggested. If that doesn't work I guess I'll have to send each letter individually to the schools. I'm not going to ask my letter writers to go through the process of resubmitting my letters.

the process works , all my letters are submitted to aacomas today . Make sure to email interfolio though

I tried that process, but they haven't been uploaded yet, nor has Interfolio asked me for payment the way they usually do. Hmmm....

Does anyone else think this whole switch to not accepting Interfolio letters is really stupid? I seriously want to know how many students they think just have old professors/mentors sitting at their beck and call waiting to upload letters whenever their student needs them? That's the whole point of a Dossier. And it's confidential either way so I'm not really sure what their (AACOMAS, SOPHAS, etc.) problem is.

Why bother using the AACOMAS service if you are already using Interfolio or a career center?

What do you mean by email Interfolio?
Email their help desk email letting them know you just put in a request for a letter to be sent from interfolio to aacomas. The rep has to go into your account and submit the link to aacomas manually . It makes sense emailing them speeds up the process. Good luck , it's really weird how we have to do it this way .

If you want to save on $$$

I will be doing this with one of my letters, but I'm worried that they will say later "this wasnt how you were supposed to do it" and then we have to ask our letter writers to upload them to aacomas anyways and then our applications are 100 years too late.

Just another data point - I emailed Interfolio today (Sunday morning) and just received an email (Sunday afternoon) with a special link to complete my delivery for $4. It now says my rec letter will be delivered to AACOMAS. They have to do it manually.

So now I am even more confused... I paid the 4$ to ship the letter to AACOMAS from Interfolio. Then I just got a confirmation email tonight from AACOMAS saying that the letter has successfully been received but another email from Interfolio saying I need to pay $4 to deliver the letter to CAS. Makes no sense for me to pay again if AACOMAS is already saying they have the letter.

so with this process, half life 3 confirmed? sorry, i meant did you see your letters from Interfolio show up on AACOMAS?

Does anyone know at which point you can designate which letters go to which school? Or do you not have that option if you do your letters through AACOMAS? It worries me because when you go to submit, it states that that area will be "locked" after submittal but it never states where or to who those letters are going.

AACOMAS letter service is primitive compared to AMCAS letter service. Every letter that is locked is sent to every single school, and there is nothing we can do about it. Its so lame.

Wow, that does kind of suck. Is anyone on here who has applied or is applying with the letter service through AACOMAS worried about having all their letters go to all their schools? I just know that some schools don't want more than four letters or only want certain kinds of letters and this process kind of ruins that.

I made the mistake of asking my writes to all send to AACOMAS and now don't want to have to ask them to send to interfolio.

I also asked AACOMAS if they could just not send any of the letters from the service or just delete them. They said they wont. So yea.... schools are about to get a lot more letters than
they anticipated. I have 4 total, but 1 of them is a non science that is just not needed for the majority of schools.

Well, I'm about to be in the same boat! I have four and one non science.

Oh well I'm thinking about calling them and explaining to them that this caveman level AACOMAS letter system is going to result in them having excessive letters

That's a good idea. It would be worth a shot to at least email the admissions people. Maybe they could do something about filtering. I don't know.

did you choose to email or mail letters?

Any idea why interfolio resends the request to the Letter writers after you request the delivery?
