Does anyone know what the new changes of the AACOMAs application will entail this year? I had a question regarding grade replacement. According to AACOMAS, the applications is "going through some major changes". So I was curious if anyone knew anything about these new changes more specifically in regards to grade replacement.

I asked about replacing my organic chem 2 grade as my school separated the lecture and the lab. The school I was looking to replace it at, combines both the lecture and lab...so I was curious to see if they still applied for schools that combine them. I got my answer. I am asking if anyone had the slightest clue how anything is going to work come May?

Dear AACOMAS Applicants,

On behalf of AACOM, we would like to share with you exciting news that the AACOMAS application platform will change beginning with the 2016 AACOMAS cycle in May 2015. We initiated this change as a result of shifting dynamics in newer technology and association business needs. After careful and considerable review, Liaison International was the company that was identified to best meet AACOMAS requirements. They have demonstrated experience with other Central Application Services representing programs in the health professions. The depth of Liaison’s experience with implementing and running centralized application services for 28 other associations of schools for the health professions (ex. dentistry, pharmacy, veterinary), their capacity to expand the AACOMAS menu of services and features (ex. electronic letters of recommendation, enhanced application management services), and the ability to implement the new platform between application cycles, made Liaison the best choice for AACOM and our applicants.

The new application system will go live on May 5, 2015. To prepare for the launch of AACOM’s new application system, please be aware of the following important updates:

We strongly encourage you to save/print off a copy of your current AACOMAS application in the event you plan to re-apply.

The 2016 AACOMAS Application will not have the roll-over feature. Re-applicants will need to re-submit all transcripts. (This feature will resume in the 2017 AACOMAS cycle)
Applicants may begin to apply to 2016 AACOMAS the first week of May 2015. As in previous cycles, COMs will not receive applications until mid-June.
Letters of Recommendation: AACOMAS will now be able to receive and process letters of recommendation directly. Letters may still be received from Virtual Evals, Interfolio, and USPS mail.
Military and foreign coursework will no longer be verified by AACOMAS nor included in the GPA. AACOMAS will still collect these transcripts and evaluations and make them available to the COMs for review. WES along with other foreign transcript evaluators will process these and forward them to AACOMAS.
More details about these changes are forthcoming. We will be communicating updates on our website: www.aacom.org , AACOMAS Facebook page, Twitter, and with our member medical schools. Should you have questions, please contact [email protected].

Thank you.

Lol if they eliminated grade replacement I'm pretty sure they would lose more than half of their applicants and that means hellaaaa $$$$$.

Probably not for another 5 years I'd say but I'm just pulling that number outta nowhere lolz

I contacted AACOMAS today in regards to grade replacement. They would not give me a straight answer on how grade replacement will work as far as May of 2015. I asked them about organic chemistry. They said it would be replaced if I was applying this round (which I am not) and they were unable to tell me how it would work come May as they "did not know any details about the new application and could only advise me on now".

Can you share where you saw the information about the "major changes?"

Does anyone know if grade replacement is being eliminated?

Shouldn't they have made an announcement about eliminating grade replacement a long time ago if they were going do to it? Retaking classes takes a lot of time and money and I know many students have spent both and are depending on it...

I called them today. I asked them about retaking Ochem 2 this summer to improve my C and the guy said he was unable to provide me information with the future application. He said he could advise me on what to do for this application which if I were taking the class now and got a better grade, that it would replace the C in this application that is currently open. However, he was unsure the "new details" of the new application so he was unable to guarantee me that the same replacement will still be valid in the future.

Sorry OP, I think you are just freaking out unnecessarily. If grade replacement was gone, it would have been MAJOR news and we'd be notified. It'd be at the top of the forums for weeks. I strongly doubt anything is changing except for what has been already outlined.

I just received an email from AACOMAS....grade replacement will be the same come May.

So does this mean that even if we were verified and applied to schools this cycle, we will still have to have all our transcripts sent again for next cycle ?

Thanks for the response, that's pretty rough. It takes forever to enter every grade for every class you have taken. Ughh

In a pre-soma conference last weekend, there was a AACOMAS representative there to give some insight into the new application process. GRADE REPLACEMENT IS NOT CHANGING! Why would it? Think about what that change would do to the entity.

Any hoot, one minor change that I believe I will love is that AACOMAS is going to start directly taking LORs. No more sending them to interfolio and them sending it to AACOMAS, which was stupid anyways given that they're basically the same people.

Military transcripts? What does that even include? I'm seriously curious- if you got straight A's in West Point is it just not counted or what?

They don't mean from the academies. The military branches give transcripts for training. Basic training and job training, as well as other courses taken throughout a career, will end up on this transcript. Tha'ts what they're talking about.

Does anyone know where to input AP credit?
Enter the line as it says on your transcript. Mine said Biol AP 101-103. You enter the grade as CR and when you are done with all coursework entries, you hit the review button. In there it asks to mark all AP, repeats, abroad, etc.

Thanks! do our courses have to be listed in order as shown on transcript? when i list them in order, the application rearranges them for some reason.

Would it be best to submit my AACOMAS application to 1 school and wait for verification before adding all the other schools I wish to apply to?
What are the advantages/disadvantages of doing this?
thanks!

I was wondering how we can check if our transcripts were received if we have not yet submitted to programs? In the guidebook, it says to look under program status but I have not submitted school yet so in my program status, it doesn't say anything.
