Hi, my name is Albert, I attended college a few years ago and obtained about 30 hrs or so, i left it to pursue a different career. When i first started college I wanted to pursue an education in Veterinarian, but I got a little discouraged at how long it would take. Now that I experienced life a bit I understand its well worth the time it takes to gain a great career as a Veterinarian. I have yet to go into my local college and ask any question in relations to it but i did find this forum.

My main question is to understand if my previous college hours would even help at all. Do i pursue a bachelors in Biology then apply to vet school or should I pursue first the Veterinarian Assistant with either an online college or mortar school?

I would suggest you use the search feature of this forum first, since there is already a lot of information out there.

In grossly simplified terms, you need these things to apply for vet school:
- Pre-requisite coursework - each school is specific in which courses it wants so you would need to look into what schools require what courses. You are not required to have a Bachelors to apply, and you are not required to major in any specific subject. Just meet the pre-requisite requirements and you can apply.
- Experience in the field of vet med - both animal and veterinary experience. This can come from a variety of things - shadowing a vet, working as a technician, wokring/volunteering at a shelter/zoo/aquarium/farm, etc.
- GRE - Google it.
- 3 or more letters of recommendation - most schools require at least one from a veterinarian.

So that's the gist of it. Whether or not you should look into work as an assistant or tech depends on your situation. It can be a great stepping stone toward vet school in that it allows you to gain useful veterinary experience but going through the certification process can use up time and resources that you may want to instead focus on getting through your courses.
