Hey guys,

It's been a while. School is kicking my butt!

So my fiancé just got accepted into a residency program (pediatrics) that is uprooting us from AZ to CA (loma linda). The second I found out I went to go apply to CSU - Pomona to switch to an animal science degree (mine is currently animal physiology & behavior at ASU, so not too far off, but I love CSU's program way more)

Anyways, their admissions is closed for the fall so I'll have to apply in the spring.

Has anyone gone there? I'll be a junior transfer student. Currently my GPA is a 3.9. I'm gonna go to San Bernardino community (valley college?) to continue my science credits at least.

Would love some advice, tips, tricks, bribing methods lol 🙂

Would it also be worth calling CSU -pomona to see if there are any spots left for the fall? Maybe someone decided to change schools or something?

Also they have the animal science degree listed as super competitive and they don't accept everyone who wants that degree.

Thanks!

always worth a call! not sure if they do this, but even if you couldnt transfer directly into the AS degree program, perhaps you could transfer in as "undecided" or something like that and switch majors? make sure to sell yourself! you sound like you have something to sell with a 3.9!

It's Cal Poly Pomona, not CSU 🙂 It's near my home town and I have several friends that went there and enjoyed it, though none studied animal science. I can't imagine you'll have a difficult time getting in with such a high GPA. Good luck!

Lol sorry I saw online some people call it CSU. I thought it was california state university - pomona?

But yeah cal poly! 😛

3.9 but don't even know the name of my future college 🙄

Do either of you know how hard it is to get into Cal Poly Pomona? (CPP from here on out lol).

It seemed fairly competitive as on the admissions page it says that you should have back up majors since there are so many that are popular (basically the science majors, animal science, biology etc) it was a fairly long list!

Even with the 3.9 I get nervous! I have no other options than this school since I'll be stuck in the area for 3 years not that that is a bad thing either I am very excited to move somewhere new.

A lot of the CA state schools have "impacted" programs, meaning there are more people who want in than the school can accommodate. Usually you spend your first 2 years at that school or the nearby community college taking your GEs and prep-work for the major and then you apply to that program specifically. I don't think you should be nervous with a 3.9.

Also check out CSU San Bernardino, CSU Northridge, and UC Irvine. Also have you considered UC Riverside? It's closer to Loma Linda than Cal Poly Pomona.
