So today will be my 2nd day as a CVS pharmacy tech trainee. I have zero experience. I feel very comfortable at pick-up but I haven't been trained in drop-off yet. They don't have me at the drop-off window but they do have me working drive thru. So, my question is when a customer is dropping off a rx at drive thru what do I do? Do I ask for their name, address, DOB etc and write is down on the paper prescription and pre-enter it? Or do I ask & just try to remember and pre-enter it? Also, while working drive-thru to pre-enter a prescription do I search their name and find their profile or do I use the QD?

When a customer comes to the store and wants a refill do I just use the F key for refill or do I start by searching their name?

Thanks!!!

Definitely ask your boss first. You don't want to start doing whatever, taking advice from internet strangers, only to get in trouble later.

I haven't had to work at a place with a drive through, but at drop off:

1) Ask if they've filled there before, and make sure every on the prescription is written right (Has a name, DOB, Address for CIIs, Doctor signed it and dated it correctly...they write it wrong so often).
2) If they have filled there before, look them up. If they say they haven't, look them up anyway, because the majority of the time, they actually have, but maybe 5 years ago at a different store. If they really aren't, make them a profile, which includes getting any allergies, and all their third party info. By the way, check ID for narcotics and also for new patients.
3) Type up the script. Depending on what it is, you may have to check if you have it in stock.
4) Ask if they will be waiting. Set the time accordingly.
5) Push it through, scan it in.
6) Press F12, and pray it didn't reject.
7) Deal with it when it rejects.

I work at Walgreens pharmacy, but the drop-off window should be relatively the same.
1. Make sure their profile is in the system (search DOB, last night, etc)
2. If they are not, add them to the system (with all the relevant information)
3. If they are, great, verify their address & phone number is still up to date (update if necessary), and write them down on the RX immediately
4. Scan it in for the appropriate pickup time (if it's a waiter, type it up immediately), if not depending on if there are customers behind; you can wait to type it up later on
5. If the RX goes through, you're essentially golden, next step is up to the pharmacist to verify and then fill
6. If the RX doesn't go through, depending on the rejection (days supply, dosage, insurance problem), you may need to fix the issue

It's going to be pretty stressful early on, since you're going to be constantly asking for help and most likely there will be a line forming up. Just remember to take it one customer at a time, and don't be shy about asking for help. Right now it's training time, and it's better to learn how to solve problems now than to wait further down the road.

Hope this helped!
