Hi. I am a new graduate moving to MA. Besides getting license, what else do I need to do while looking for jobs? Is it better to wait till I land a job to get malpractice insurance? What about getting into insurance plans? If anyone practicing in MA can give me tips/checklist of things to do before starting a job, I will greatly appreciate it! Thanks.

ODs here have already stated that there are no jobs. So might as well forget about looking. Just find a new career. That's not me talking I am just stating what ODs have told us here.

Ya no point in even getting licensed. You won't be able to treat glaucoma therefore you'll be doing refractions 99% of your time as per our senior ODs. Oh yea and trying to get onto medical plans? Forget about it. Vision plans and their $40 reimbursement for a full eye exam will leave you searching in the dumpsters for food. There are no jobs so you will have to go to wal-mart where the dumpsters are in the back so after you finish your shift you can search in there. Get ready to get paid $50k annually if you are lucky as there will be 30 ODs trying to get your job. Like Jason K and Tippy Toe say, there are no jobs in optometry and you might as well escape to Mexico and never come back so you don't have to pay off your student loans :O
