Hi All,

All those applying to (MD/PhD or PhD or MS) programs. Does anyone have any suggestions as to which books to use for GRE prep. Given that the GRE has changed as of (Aug 2011) most of the threads on SDN are older. I just bought the official GRE guide off of ETS just to get a feel for the test.

Any suggestions.

Thanks !!

I took the GRE in 2008 so it might have changed. I didn't really study for it (bad idea) but I would recommend pretty much and prep book that has a large vocabulary list and flash cards. If you are reasonable good at logic, the math is not hard and you won't need to study. I hadn't taken math since high school and got a 780. But I sucked it up on verbal, 580. You NEED a strong vocabulary. Otherwise it's not a difficult test to take.

Edit: just noticed you specified *new* GRE in your post, so they must have changed it. Please disregard my derpiness!

IIRC making the math section harder was one of the changes that was made.

The PhD/MD forum would be a good place as to ask, as probably most in this area focus on MCAT. ^_^

To my knowledge, not many PhD/ MD programs use the GRE, but maybe MS programs do?

Bah--I wish you didn't buy the ETS book--all of its content was free on their website when I took it.

But yea---GRE is a breeze man. I used this. Go through this book--acknowledge your weak points--and then do the 5 online exams. Take note of which questions you get wrong and work on those. The online exams explain how to do the problems and are great. I did that mainly for the math problems. This book gives you a list of like 100 MUST know words--then like 500 other words to know.

I also used this. It has 9 quizzes with 20 words each. Easy 180 words. I saw 2-3 of these on my exam.

Do these and you should be fine. If you do use the Kaplan--avoid the CD--filled with errors.

Thanks all ! Thats really helpful. I found a great website magoosh.com and so far im really liking it. I will go through the GRE practice tests from ETS.

Thanks Again !
