Just called AACOMAS regarding the academic update: apparently if you are trying to replace previous courses after you've submitted your application, you CANNOT do so after you've submitted your primary even during the academic update. You must wait until the course you're replacing with is completed before you can have your retake count...

I think this is some major BS.

"Count" in the sense that it'll be figured into your GPA. Transcripts can still be provided to schools to show your improvement, correct? Why would they re-calculate your GPA's mid-season after schools have already received/reviewed your app?

While it is def annoying you are not alone. In essence I think this year there will be a lot of late Applications with the advent of having people take late mcAts and now this.

Yes, so if you've already submitted your primary the new course would be factored into your GPA normally during the academic update. The course WILL NOT replace the previous course in terms of replacing the new grade with the old to create the desired improved GPA.

UPDATE: Called AACOMAS again because this policy made no sense to me- got confirmation from a manager that they will be able to change the previous course to zero credits during the academic update. I would need to simply call them and they will do it for me. For now, I will mark the completed course with the correct credits and the retake course in progress...

Unfortunately, it seems as though these people have no idea what their real policies are. They again told me that the retake had to be from the same institution with the same prefix, but this is clearly WRONG. If something doesn't appear to make sense, make sure you keep pushing to speak with a manager.

I almost delayed my whole application by 4 weeks because of this misinformation. Hope this helps anyone who is in a similar situation.

Are there any new updates on this? My situation is that I submitted my primary during the summer, while also retaking a course during the summer, so I put down the initial attempt as 3 credits. I finished my summer course with an A and want it to replace my old grade, but it stayed at 3 credits instead of being replaced with 0 credits. So at this point I have the same course on my transcript, each with 3 credits, which is bringing my GPA down. I emailed them but all they told me was that it is my responsibility to mark the initial attempt as 0 credits. But I can't do that when it is locked, no changes can be made. Is there a way I can talk to them and have them change it, or a way to change it myself?
