I don't think this has been discussed before, but are people that are applying to VMRCVM aware of the new interview system? I don't think it says anywhere on the website, and I only know because of the Pre-Vet Club here at Tech...

Anyway, so this year all interviews will be held at Virginia Tech (Maryland residents used to be at the University of MD) and the hot and cold interviews are GONE! It is now "multiple mini interviews" that test "soft skills". So, you have 9 interviews of 8 minutes each with one break.

You have to read a situation before you go in the room, then talk to whoever's in there. They said it could be an actor and observer or just one person. But, anyway, they're not talking about you or your application and it might not even relate to vet med.

Sorry it's so long... They'll send out more information for the lucky people who get to interview... I just didn't know if everyone else was in the dark about this or not!

Yeah I never heard about any of this, but I'm not really "In the loop". I just applied and was hoping that if I got invited for an interview that they would let me know what was up!

Thanks for the heads up. I am applying out there but not too hopefully of getting an interview invite as I am OOS. Thanks for the info though.

Thanks for the info. As a Maryland resident, I'm a little bummed about the drive, but at least I'll get to see the school, since I'm not sure whether I'll get down there this fall. So is this like a personality interview?

I received the attached document from my pre-health advisor. It's not specifically from Virginia, but it discusses the concept of the mini-interview.

Not to steal the thread, and I know there is another one floating around here, but is anyone having difficulty with the supplemental for Virginia-Maryland? I'm not really understanding what I can put because it says to not duplicate information put on VMCAS but to put anything that was not "hands on", but what is the criteria for hands on?
Almost every procedure that I have observed has been "hands on", where I either scrub in or assist with anesthesia monitoring. Ahhhh, do i just leave it blank?

I scanned through the document and it looks helpful! The director of admissions actually gave us that example of the woman afraid of flying when she told us about the interviews...

About the supplemental, I am also confused! I am going to email them about it. Ms. Massey has been very helpful to me in the past when I had questions.

Yeah, I e-mail a while ago and didn't get a response. Joyce Massie? She was a sweetheart when I called, very helpful. I might ask her when I call to check on my GRE scores.
I just don't really understand what I'm supposed to put there? Technically, I should leave it blank I guess but that seems really quite dumb.

Yes, that's who I meant. I'm surprised she hasn't gotten back to you. I emailed her earlier today and she responded in about a half hour... Anyway, she said if all of your vet experiences are on the VMCAS you do NOT need to submit the supplemental form. The same is true if you put your biomedical/research experiences on VMCAS.

I am relieved to hear that (1 less thing to submit!)🙂

Good luck with your application-Blacksburg is a great place to be!
