Hey guys just wanted to see your thoughts. I've been doing emergency scribing for the past 1.5 years during my gap years and will be applying this cycle. I was thinking about doing Americorps or NIH IRTA during my application cycle just to switch things up. Unfortunately, the latter hasn't panned out as a lot of the labs I'd like to work with had funding cut. I'm starting to see the same issue with Americorps and the couple of positions I have applied for are becoming super competitive as a result.

Worst case scenario, if I don't get a new job would it look bad if I continued scribing? It's not my only gap year activity and I have volunteering and leadership stuff. I don't think I would have been able to start my new position before the application opened up anyways so it wouldn't have been a huge part of my extracurriculars anyways but just wanted to ask.

It's fine. Keep going with it.

Another year of scribing won't hurt you. Perhaps try to scribe in a different department or different area of medicine so that you get a different perspective.
