Hi,

I know that there are tons of thread like this, but I couldn't find a single one about this new Littmann Classic III. I have been thinking of buying a stethoscope and I was primarily deciding between Littmann Classic II SE or Cardiology III. I almost ordered Card III because of the superior sound quality (what I've read) and the flexibility (ped/adult). But then I noticed Littmann has this new Classic model (III) with dual ped/adult diaphragm, and it's almost half the price compared to Card III. There is also some minor improvements made to this model. Also, what many clinicians say, we don't actually need the Cardiology steth yet (in med school). The downside in Classic III is that there are only a few colours available at this point 😀.

Any opinions, or experiences?

Get the Harvey Elite. However, if you prefer Littman, then the Classic II SE is good. The Cardiology III is good too and I would recommend this for a Littmann. If price is a concern then any of the lesser one would be fine. If you know what to listen for, you can pick the sound up with any of these stethoscopes.

I have been using the Littmann Classic III for about 6 months now, and I have to say, I am very pleased so far. Although I wouldn't say that it's entirely different from the Classic II SE, it does come with quite a few substantial improvements, especially in regards to the design of the head. The acoustics also appear to be slightly better than the Classic II, giving sounds better clarity and definition during auscultation. It is also nice that the bell converts to a pediatric diaphragm. I would definitely recommend it. The Cardiology III is a wonderful stethoscope, but for day-to-day clinical activities I would suggest the Classic III or Classic II SE, depending upon budget and personal preference.
