Hi everyone,

My last recommender finally finished his letter. He was not writing a required letter and as a result I have been complete at most of the schools I have applied to since July. How should I deal with this? I was thinking I could either:

(1) Send off the letter through AMCAS now, and contact each school to let them know about the incoming letter;

or

(2) Hold off on the letter until a little later, and if I get waitlisted anywhere, send it then along with an update.

I was leaning towards (1), but I'm worried it might slow down review of my already completed file (e.g., a school might decide to wait until the letter arrives to review my application). What do you think? Thanks in advance!

Well letters arrive pretty much instantly, the school just has to go in and download them off of AMCAS. So doing #1 wouldn't delay you at all unless they decide to put your app at the end of the queue.

On second thought, maybe that's what you were worried about. 😛

I have this problem too - my committee letter was sent out last week, but I just recently asked someone to write an additional recommendation. One of the schools (I forget which one) mentioned in an email that they won't accept any additional documents until after an interview has been scheduled. Does anyone know if this is common? Otherwise do I have to call all of the schools and let them know to expect another letter?

Haha, exactly! Anyone know if this is what happens? I don't see why your file would be moved back, but I also don't want to take that risk for an LOR.
