Hey guys, I just joined SDN and I'm pretty excited to apart of this dedicated healthcare community 😀

Now for my question: does anyone know how this new MCAT2015 will work? I'm planning on going to either U of M-Ann Arbor or Wayne State University in the fall of 2013. I'm not sure if I'll be a freshman, sophomore, sophomore-and-a-half, etc. but I want to know if I'll be able to take the old MCAT rather than the new MCAT (I assume the "old" MCAT will be easier because of all the prep books, people able to give advice, etc.?).

Would I want to do this? I think that I read somewhere that it depends on when exactly that one is admitted to medical school, and I'm simply unsure of how this would apply to me...

Also, cast a vote for either undergraduate institution with a quick reason (if you don't mind)! I am a solid student, just fyi: 5th in my class, 32 ACT, 4.313 CUM GPA, 8 AP classes.

-Wayne-full ride, commuting, easier to get a higher GPA(?)
-U of M-$25,000 at the end of 4 years (could be less depending on APs), dorming, possibly more difficult academically (I just keep hearing rumors about this)?

Thank you guys so much (I'm really trying to weigh everything out right now so as to make the best decision for me personally--sorry if this post is too long, I'm new)

Ok, what did I do wrong? 🙁

How do I get to hSDN??

I thought that I was pre-med; I was admitted to both of those schools by the way.

Help...

I usually don't reply to topics like these, but I thought I'd... help? I'm also a HS senior.
You got moved to hSDN because the pre-med forums are for those who are actively enrolled in college. hSDN is the very first link at the top of the forum home screen.

Edited this section:
It'll be 2016 or 2017 before you even get to take it. By then, even if you'd taken the last test (without writing) at the end of 2013 or the new 2015 test, your score would be either expired or somewhat old. Here's some info on the changes. and here's another FAQ (I admit I don't know much about the new testing situation.)

Most people will tell you to just go to the university that gives you the most money. That would be Wayne. I know commuting is undesirable to a lot of people, but if you're not itching to get away, it's not bad. I have friends and family that commute and they're fine. If the debt and/or extra prestige is worth it, dorm.
