Does anyone have information on the current resident experience at Tulane or LSU New Orleans, specifically regarding volume, teaching, and resident satisfaction? Thanks in advance.

What I have heard post Katrina is essentially everyone who could leave, did leave.

I would be asking ALOT of questions about the programs there.

I am actually a 4th year at Tulane, and it definitely is not true about "everyone who could leave, did leave". I am not from New Orleans originally, but a lot of people here from this city are very loyal and a lot of physicians wouldn't leave no matter how many hurricanes came through. That being said, the path department did loose some physicians but there are a lot of good ones left and the residents here are really cool and have A LOT OF MOONLIGHTING opportunites, this one guy I know is making double his PGY-2 salary...The teaching is excellent and all the attendings are pretty down to earth. The volume is also picking up at an exponential pace, as University Hospital (the new Charity) is now open for business...

Im not at all disagreeing. I will say my interactions have been minimal BUT I do know for a fact the pathologist who was given an award by CAP and was featured on CNN for staying behind during Katrina has since left, in fact he floated interest in some of the contracts I hold (which is how I heard what I posted). I believe he resettled in South Carolina (dunno exactly).

Dunno, I would still ask alot of questions and be fairly skeptical, but Im glad to see Charity reopening.

PS-Im not sure what you mean by "A LOT" of moonlighting opportunities..PGY2 cant possibly be signing cases out. Autopsies on recovered bodies? That seems kinda grim. Maybe general internal med/ER stuff?
