Hey all,

My search isn't working again, so I apologize if this is a repetitive post. I was wondering if a new FAFSA PIN # is required for MS1s, or if we could continue to use the same PIN # that we used during our UG. I'm a little confused on this.

I used the same pin. Even after a lag year (so I couldn't do the renewal form), and they processed my FAFSA in one day and took it. I guess it's ok...... 🙁

if you've continuously been in school and filling out fafsa each year, you shouldn't need a new pin unless you had something weird like a name change. however, if you haven't filled out a fafsa in a few years, your pin might not work. i used my pin in 2001, and then requested a copy of it in fall of 2005 to get ready to fill out my fafsa. i received my official mailing with my pin on it and thought everything was cool, but it didn't work!

according to the pin site, all my info was correct, but the fafsa site was claiming i had a social security mismatch. i called the fafsa people, and they told me that this is an issue with old pins that hadn't been used in a few years. i had to force cancel the pin by answering my security question wrong three times and then apply for a new pin, which funnily enough is the same pin, but it now works. if i had changed my name or something, it would have made sense, but that wasn't the case. anyway, i guess their computers aren't the best.

Thanks, everyone. I'm planning on filling and submitting my FAFSA today, if all goes well (gotta love the President's Day off!)

Kind of a sidenote, I got baptized a while back and was thinking of legally changing my name. Does anyone have any experience with this - will changing my name after filing my FAFSA goes in require a lot of extra paperwork? I don't want to screw around with my financial aid.
