anyone know when the new US News & World Report (2009) vet school rankings come out? The 2009 med school rankings are out but I couldn't find anything on vet schools...

They only do vet schools every so many years. I can't remember if it is 5 or 7 or what number.

oh, I thought it was every 2 - my mistake, sorry!

no...they did vet school rankings this year too. i was perusing through the magazine (US News & World Report 2009) with all the rankings for various graduate programs and came across the vet schools. i know it changed because previously, MSU was ranked 5th and now they're 9th and OSU is 5th. top 4 pretty much stayed the same (in no particular order): Cornell, CSU, UC Davis, Penn

sorry i can't remember all the particulars

do you have a link maybe?

Tastrophe, I did some research and while it appears that USN&WR has released a 2009 version of graduate program rankings. It did not update the vet school information. The list in the 2009 book has a notation that the statistics are from its 2007 survey results. O well, hopefully next year.

Honestly, rankings don't mean very much at all...at most, there's going to be a small difference between #1 and say #30, but between #10 and #20 (or #5 and #9?) Nothing. The rankings aren't particularly based on all the applicable pros and cons of schools, either - there has been a lot of debate over this...they are maybe a "gee whiz" factor, but I certainly wouldn't give them any weight in terms of application.

I agree. I apply to schools based on several personal factors. None of which have to do with where they ranked on this list. For me it was just a curiousity factor. I was happy to see the NCSU was up high on the list. While I will most likely never get accepted there, nice to know my dream school was highly scored by attending student (just in case😉)

I do not think people are interested in the rankings as a way to determine which vet schools to apply to...I think most of us are aware that pretty much ALL vet schools in the US have good programs and that deciding on where to apply should be based on other factors. I just think it's interesting to see where things fall out...who can claim top bragging rights etc.

That's exactly right, for me at least. It never occurred to me to check the rankings of a school before I applied there, vet school or otherwise. But it is interesting to see where the schools you're interested in fall on the list.

I'd actually rather see the schools I am applying to lower on the list so (hopefully) a little less competition!
