Wanted to know if anyone with good idea on the test scoring could answer a few questions...first, wanted to know if something like the recent change of passing mark (from 185-188) would make a big difference (obviously implying that it is a little harder to just pass...but does it also greatly affect scores above it, average, etc...). By no means looking for a 188 or anywhere around there, but just looking to find out how this will impact scoring in general (if really at all).

Also, I understand the two digit (75%) will remain the same (unless that is not correct)...if that's true, wouldn't the exam be scaled like it usually is, kind of just "equaling" out to have the same pass/failure rates w/percentages of students taking the exam at that given time? I honestly don't know and wanted an idea/any explanation from someone who is familiar w/the scoring and all of this.

Lastly, this is complete, uh, step 1 "rumor" material, but wanted to see if there is any truth to it...someone who recently took the exam told me that out of the 336 questions, answering approximately "1/2" right equated to a passing score...above that is where you start to really determine how well you do. Now, this can be completely dumb, but how much of a raw score really dictates your two/three digit score? Because it doesn't really equate to 75% answered correctly = 75/188? I know there is no way to give a definitive answer to this, but what would be a good approximation.

Appreciate any answers, thanks.

The pass score is just a threshold. I can't see how it could affect the statistical characteristics of the test.

According to First Aid, passing amounts to roughly 60-70% correct. That was based on a passing score of 185, however.

A 2-digit score of 75 corresponds to a passing score, and is linear with the 3-digit score on up to around 99/~235. Not sure why they do this, and frankly I don't think many people care about the 2-digit score.

The two digit score is NOT a percentage. It is a score devised to PD to compare applicants more realistically that using a 3-digit score.

For example, how different are two applicants with a 244 and 256, respectively? They both have a 99 two-digit score so that is something a PD can use to compare to someone with a 92 (which is roughly a 221).
