Hi,
I just started my journey towards Medical School and I read somewhere that pre-med requires a year of calculus. But as I check the sites of specific schools, I'm finding that calculus is not mentioned in many of their prerequisites. Just wanted to ask the community here and get a clear understanding of what's to be done.
Thanks for the help guys! 😀

Some schools do require it (I don't remember offhand which ones). I think your best bet is to look up prereq's for individual schools before adding them.

You might also check their physics requirements. Some schools require calc-based physics, in which case calculus will be helpful.

Harvard and WUSTL are medical schools I know that require calculus.

I have never heard of a school requiring calc-based physics.

I agree, some schools require calculus and some don't. You can either just take it to be safe, or figure out if any of the schools you're interested in require it. I've never heard of any med school requiring calc-based physics.

Some schools will also take Statistics for their math requirement.

It just depends on the school.

The only schools that I know of that require a year of calc are the H'es (Harvard and Hopkins). However, there are a handful of schools that do require one semester of calc. Some also require a semester of stats. Your best bet is to look at all the schools you are considering and see what they require. Personally, I'm taking calc I and stats, which I believe should cover most of the schools I'm interested in.

Harvard has a program that requires calculus based physics; I believe it is the only one in the country that requires it.
Also a bunch of schools require a "year of math" by which they generally mean one semester of calc and a second math course.
AECOM is one example but they let you use computer science in lieu of math. Dartmouth I believe requires one semester of calculus. Can't think of others off the top of my head.

I think the majority of schools "recommend" a year of math, but not sure how strong their recommendation is.

Awesome, thanks for all the help guys and good luck on your journeys as well! 🙂
