Hello Everybody,

I am planning to apply to dental schools next year (entering class 2005) and I think I should start preparing for the DAT from now. I was wondering if you could recommend me some books that I can use in order to prepare myself for the exam. I already bought the Kaplan DAT review book but I was told that it is not sufficient to get scores in the 20?s. Please, let me know if there is something better than Kaplan that I should comsider ? something that covers more material and guarantees better sores. I am willing to buy a few texbooks if needed. Also, does it worth it to take one of those review classes that Kaplan offers. Otherwise my application will look something like this:
Current total GPA: 3.51; Science GPA: 3.45 (of course I have another 2 semester to go before start applying) from total semester hours taken - 106.
+50 hours of volunteer dentist observation
What do you think should my minimum scores be on the DAT in order to be a competitive applicant?

I used Kaplan & Barrons Books and borrowed some old books
from friends. If you study with DAT in mind, you will have a great
success. Also, if possible get a Mechanivcal engingeer or an
architect to help you or take a basic engineering drawing course
(for Perceptual Ability).
Its worth spending half an hour a day practicing PA. Its easy but
if you wait too long to prepare for PA, you may run into trouble.
I studied about two weeks 6 hours a day and got following scores:

Academic Average = 23

Perceptual ability =20, did not take any courses, I wish I had.

Quantitative Reasoning = 24

Reading Comprehension = 21 (My strongest(!) in practice tests)

Biology = 22

General Chemistry = 23

Organic Chemistry = 25

Total Science = 23

My GPA= 4.0 (science), Overall GPA= 3.95

Its practice practice, practice. I wish u all the best my friend!
Take practice tests as often as you can, and work on your
weaknesses.

Try to do as best as you can. Higher the DAT score, better are the chances. If you have 20 in everything, u can get in a very good
school. Higher it is, better it is. By practice tests, you will know whare you can improve. Do some research & volunteering, u r ok with dental experience. With taht GPA and 20 on DAT, u will
have a good spot in a nice school.
