For TWU applicants, what do you think about the new process/reqs? Judging from their website, they took away the interviews and they've never required the GRE. Now, they only accept your application, transcripts, 1 20hr clinical observation form, and 1 LOR. Do you guys think this is a good thing or bad thing?

I personally think it'll make it harder on a lot of us. They limit the number of shadowing to 20hr, so that everyone has the same number on their application, and we can't really talk about extra hours because there's no interview. Of course, there's always the personal statement, but there's a word limit on those. So basically, I see them only accepting those with the top GPA...like people with >3.8 on last 60hrs or pre-req GPA. I know this school has been making decisions strongly on GPA in the past, but now I think GPA will make an even bigger impact. What do you guys think?

From what I've been told by different people involved in the admissions process at TWU, they took away the interview because of research studies that have shown that schools will admit the same applicants whether or not these schools have an interview process.

GPA all depends on the applicant pool. A few years back, the average GPA for those accepted at TWU was around 3.4-3.5. Last year it was 3.7-3.8, so it'll probably be similar this year. They do admit applicants with slightly lower GPAs, though. While GPA continues to be one of the biggest priorities for them, I think these LORs are going to be pretty crucial in making final decisions. Regardless of the number of hours you spend observing/volunteering or the grades you make, those things may not mean much if the OT and/or professor writing your recommendations barely know your name.

Are these changes for Fall 2014 applicants or 2015?

I've heard the same thing as Proto, the GPA mark depends on the pool of applicants. It could be higher some years and lower other years. But I have heard that they are looking for at least a 3.6 and have only about 40-45 spots for each Dallas and Houston campus. As for the Denton campus, they can only occupy about 30 students because they have less labs. Everything has its pros and cons. Good luck to you though. I'm sure you'll be fine either way. 🙂

Both. Applicants for Fall 2014 entry will no longer interview and will instead submit an extra LOR from a faculty member they've taken a course with. The same changes will apply to applicants for Fall 2015 entry, except they will now be required to complete all prerequisites within the semester of application. You can look at TWU's website for all the details!

Just focus on writing a really good personal statement/ essay since these will serve as your interview (kinda)
