Hi everyone,

Canadian 3rd year gas resident here. Wondering if anyone has had a chance to check out the new textbook on the block: Essential Clinical Anesthesia by Vacanti et al. (published July 2011).

I get the sense it may be a middle ground between Lange and the big boys (Barash, Miller) but if anyone has it would appreciate your impressions so far.

Here's the link: http://www.amazon.com/Essential-Cli...0206/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1314373999&sr=8-1

Cheers,

Hi Dr Vacanti.

Haha. No, sadly not Dr. Vacanti here. Would gladly take that income over mine thank you very much!

I just ordered it. If it truly is between Morgan and Mikhail and the big boys, that would be exactly what I am looking for. I wish M and M would publish a new edition. For < $60 and >1000 pages its worth looking into. I will let everyone know.

Very reasonable basic textbook. Has online "extra" material in the form of extra chapters. Nice charts and tables with significant "meat." Easy to read. Not as updated as you might think looking at age of some of the references in the chapters. Would be even better if they had online material like practice test questions as they do for Clinical Anesthesia. If you need another basic text book as a bridge between Morgan, Mikhail and Murray and Basics, this would be fine.

I know someone who authored a chapter in the new M&M by Lange. Supposedly in press. No idea when it will be out, but I would hold out for the new edition.
