I'd really like to do anesthesia back home in NY. I interviewed at Cornell, Mt. Sinai, and NYU. And I've made it known to these programs that I will be ranking them very high, but have not heard ANYTHING back from any of the programs.

I hear that Mt. Sinai is pretty hush. But what about Cornell?

Anyone else have any luck? An email, a phone call, something from these programs?? Let me know. Thanks a lot everyone.

You need to get over it, and forget all these subtle signs. You're cheap labor and most places would be happy to take you. If you're ranked in the first 70 spots for a residency of 10, statistically speaking you will match or 140 rankings for a 20 person residency. Do you think they are going to contact those 140 applicants for the big NY programs? They got better things to do like attend to their patients.

Its a dice shoot. They been in this game a lot longer than us, they know it... I NOW know it... and you need to know it. Rank your programs in order you want, submit, and open that envelope on Match Day.

In the mean time, crack open a beer.

(Its been discussed in this thread anyways: http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=599100 ")

...if you believe Levine, which I do, Sinai only went to 37 to fill 18 spots. That's pretty tight.

Wow, that's pretty crazy. I wonder if this is more of an "exception", as opposed to their "average" year?? Either that or they rank the people that say they will rank them "very highly" towards the top... lol (but I generally believe that doesn't get you very far).

By the way lfesiam, got one for me too? I prefer dark beers though.... "Guinness for strength"... Sláinte!

Yeah I remember when U of Michigan used to brag about how far down they went on their rank list... 7 unmatched spots shut them up pretty up quick.

Put this in perspective, there were only 17 unmatched CA anesthesia positions in the entire country last year... 7 were U of Michigan's.

if i remember correctly, from what adam was saying, its more like their average year.

oh Guinness.. how i love the with a shot of irish cream and jamesons...

Rxboy: i'm all over that radi-holiday elective coming up next month too. u know gotta finish up strong.

I spoke to some residents at Sinai and they were pretty proud of how short they had to go down the list to fill. I guess a lot of people love the program and/or there is a real goodness of fit between who the program loves and who loves them. They'll be at the top of my list 😀
