Hey,

First post, just wanted to say the information here is really helpful.

Does anyone have any details on the programs in New York for rad onc residency? I've read previous posts which have been helpful, but anyone that could give me some advice on which ones are the most worth pursuing and how the daily activities/exposures are at the programs would be a great help.

Thanks.

the best of the best would be MSKCC. Columbia, cornell, nyc, beth israel, Mt Sinai also exist. Am i forgetting anyone?

suny downstate (brooklyn), albert einstein

not sure what beth israel is....

upstate (buffalo, syracuse)

Beth Israel is actually a Downstate afiliate, meaning that SUNY-Downstate residents rotate through the hospital. They don't have their own residency program.

NYU also has a program.

Another one you guys missed in the immediate area is NY Medical up in Westchester.

Upstate there is also one more, Rochester.

I meant NYU, not NYC- and I didn't included non-city places (as a Manhattanite, I think of "new york" as "New york city" and "new york city" as "manhattan")

Actually why don't you go here: www.arro.org
there is a list of all residency programs by state.

Can someone give a ranking of all the programs in the state of NY and what the strengths and weaknesses of each program are?

Thanks for the posts. Aside from the rankings, if anyone could provide a little more depth on personal experiences there, as in were the residents happy? What are the rotations like (one faculty at a time for three months or rotating)? Also which of the programs are more clinically based rather than academic and reseach based?

Does anyone know about the smaller programs in NY aside from the "big 5." I'd like to know about those since being in NYC is important for me for family reasons.

What I've heard so far is that SK is very academic based (obviously) with a lot of emphasis on academics and workdays until around upto 7, really competitive (as everything in rad onc is), with very impressive faculty. THe also offer brachy and high dose prostate that arent common elsewhere.

I've also heard that Mt. Sinai has a great program if you're more interested in the clinical aspects, with a faculty super-dedicated to resident teaching and that the residents love it there.

Albert Einstein apparently has short days with plenty of extra time for research, and a faculty that emphasizes this along with helping residents prepare for boards. Any insight into the other programs and how they compare?

Has anyone done any away rotations here and have any contacts, or is the easiest way to do this to contact the chief resident?

Thanks again.
