Hi,

I am new to this forum and I just want to say how amazed I am at all the young, passionate and bright minds that are here.

I am also a predental student who has just been granted acceptance to NYU college of dentistry.

However, I have been sensing some negative feelings towards this university.

Before I came to this forum, I hardly knew anyone who was applying to NYU (or even dental school for that matter), and thought this was an amazing school. The reason why I think this is a great place to study is because NYU is a top ranking university in the world. Also, its dental school seems to have conducted a lot of good reseach that is used in the dental field today.

I really, really want to know your opinions about this school.

This is what I've heard so far:

1. NYU is a very big school.

2. NYU is very expensive.

4. The students who go here may not be as competitive as other dental students (for example: University of Pennsylvania).

and lastly: I've heard that "NYU is just a school for rich brats who couldn't get into dental school anywhere else."

Can someone please let me know if I've missed anything else?

Like many of you, I was accepted to this school without interview, and thus did not have the opportunity to talk with faculty/dental students.

I appreciate any and all of your comments.

I want to mention again how impressed and amazed at the level of talent and ambition I am witnessing in this forum.

Best wishes,

-Sunny

NYU is expensive, yes, for sure. And it is a big school.

But, i'm sure nobody here would agree that NYU dentists are less competetive than dentists from other schools.

During my interview at Columbia, i got the impression that their student body is more worried with NYU gettin most of the patients gettin better clinical skills than people at Columbia.

In short, NYU is a very good clinical school.

Dr.engineer,

Thanks for your reply.

Congradulations on your interview to Columbia! I hope that turns out well for you.

Please don't misinterpret my message. I did not state or implicate in any way that graduates from NYU college of dentistry are less competitive than those from other universities.

I stated that the students who are admitted each year, are at a less academically competitive level than those at a university such as UPenn (based on DAT/GPA). And when I said this, I was repeating what I've read from other threads. This may not necessarily be my view.

Again, thanks for your reply.
