Hi,
I am trying to make something of the data released by NRMP. There are two issues that I cannot completely understand. Everything below refers to non-US IMGs, unless otherwise specified.
#1: What do "applicants withdrawn from the Match" and "applicants with no ranking" mean? For the first one, I understand the meaning of the phrase, but I am wondering about the reasons. The way I see it, some portion of these applicants are those who obtained pre-match positions. What about the other ones?
For the second one, I do not understand wether they refer to applicants who did not supply a ROL, or to applicants who weren't ranked by any program.
Actually, it could be the exact opposite, and those who never submitted ROLs are those who got pre-match, but I strongly doubt it.
Moreover, where are those candidates who did not receive their final ECFMG Certification by Match Day? Are they "Withdrawn" or "No ranking"?
#2: I need to understand whether PGY-1 and PGY-2 positions for programs that require a prelim year are additive or "inclusive". To explain that question, let me give you an example:
There are 463 positions offered for Anesthesiology PGY-1, and 820 positions offered for PGY-2. I know that some Anesthesiology programs do offer PGY-1 positions themselves (CAO) and they also offer PGY-2 positions (CA-1). Bottom line, from the data above, does it mean that there were 463+820=1,283 gas positions in total, or were there just 820, out of which 463 offered CAO, and 820-463=357 only offered CA-1 (their applicants going elsewhere for the first year)?
Thanks, and I really hope one can understand the above blabbering.
