Hello, I just recently decided to apply to Optometry school. I am currently a junior physics major with a 3.26 GPA and have yet to take the OAT. I have taken all of the pre-requisites and I was wondering what a competitive GPA would be (I'm from Texas) and if anyone could provide me with a general timeline for the application process for 2013-2014 (to begin optometry school in the fall of 2014).

Thanks for your help!

Applications open in July and most people try to apply early. A lot of schools are filling up already and lot of places are done with applications. You will need to have shadowed an optometrist and have a letter for an optometrist and 1 or 2 letters from a science professor. GPA really ranges depending where you want to apply from 3.0 to 3.8. They require lower gpa for the newer schools AZCOPT/MCPHS/RSO/ and IAUPR( IAUPR is not new it is in puerto rico) You have to apply through optomcas this list the schools and date for deadlines for Optomcas application as well as OAT. Some require a secondary application which is just another application for you to fill with another essay. You will also have to write an essay for the OPTOMCAS.

What type of experience do you have? have you studied for the OAT?
