This sounds fitting given Columbia's SDN reputation as a purely academic institution. I kind of like the ring to it.

yes it means something: columbia is admitting that it is not the place to come to if you're all into clinical and surgical work...it's like what the previous poster said: an academic institution. SDOS was a misnomer cus it gave the impression that it's all about clinical and surgery when it is actually not. i thought it was a good idea...
