Hi all, long time lurker first time poster. I hope this will be useful for future viewers.

I'll be applying DO next application cycle and would like to know where I stand.

Stats: 3.60 cGPA, 3.40 sGPA, 27 MCAT with no section below 8. CA resident, top UC.
EC's: Hospital volunteer for 1 year (meaningful experience), MD shadowing (~50 hours), involvement in various clubs and activities, and various work related experience (including academic tutoring).
Letters: Expect good/great letters (including MD), but no DO letter.

My gpa seems to be ok, would of liked a higher mcat but I think sticking with my score is better than the risk of taking it again and scoring lower.

I'd like to know where I would stand with the more selective/competitive DO schools. Would shadowing a DO and getting a letter from one significantly help me?

Thank you in advance 🙂

Your looking good all around! You should be proud of yourself and definitely competitive pretty much everywhere. I would suggest getting that letter though. Many schools do not require it, but some do. So it would restrict where you can apply and it helps tremendously with showing the schools you are interested in that you are interested in being a DO. Also since your applying next cycle its not like your rushed.

Your in a good place and should feel proud of yourself. Plan to apply early and you should be great! Good Luck next cycle! 👍
