I worked in the VA for 6 yrs. I could write a book on disability fraud. Disability ratings for lbp are partly based on ROM testing! Completely insane.

I remember one guy who I put a cervical and lumbar stim in after failing numerous other treatments for his cervical and lumbar radiculopathy. MRIs showed very minimal disease. Shortly after implanting the cervical leads, I found out he was granted 100% rating. I realized then that I had been completely played

I was early in my career when I was young and naive and thought I could fix everyone with a procedure. The lengths some of these guys went to to get 100% ratings were unreal

So wasteful. The VA pays MSRP for everything. So probably $200k spent on that all in.

Not a bad idea…probably will finish out 3 more yrs at some point to get the bennies. It’s 10 yrs total for health benefits right?

Nope, 5 years. You're already there. To get fehb, you just need to be 62 and retire from the fed while enrolled on fehb plan.

what other options would they have, especially if they do not have access to employer-based coverage?


we should take care of our vets even if we disagree with their disability ratings etc. thats a process change inside the system, not tearing it all down.

I took his statement as giving them medicare type coverage (and disability?) and having them seek care in the community rather than duplicating the delivery system. I agree with hyper that this would be a far more efficient system that would most likely provide better care in general, but I will agree with you that tearing down the existing VA system is not palatable at this juncture.

I say no every time.

As a WW2 history buff, it makes me vomit that the majority of all vets today, typically while retiring before age 40, have almost always wangled themselves the designation of being seriously disabled. Just so they get more $$$ for retirement. It is such a racket and it really makes me lose respect for modern members of the military. Unfortunately it appears that the majority of them are serving themselves far far more than they are serving their country.

I've stopped "thanking military personel for their service". Unless they are/were special forces, or combat figher pilots, I don't hold modern vets in particularly high esteem.

However, I have nothing but the utmost respect for those who truly served and sacrificed for their country. I lived near and was fortunate to meet Major Dick Winters (of Band of Brothers). Major Winters, Easy Company, and everyone like them has my ultimate respect and gratitude.
