Hello I am a NH resident currently enrolled at the University of New Hampshire in Durham. I have a 3.56 GPA. The good news is my BCPM GPA is around a 3.67. My lower GPA has mainly been due to my History major, which I took with my core Science classes. I am a History Major with a minor in Classics and Chemistry. So far I have about 200 hours under my belt with a family practice physician, and am going into my junior year. I haven't taken the MCAT but I am a pretty dilligent person and hope to achieve at least a 30. Any suggestions to improve my application are welcome. I geuss my volunteer experience is my main concern. I wanna continue working with the greta doctor I work for, but at the same time I have heard shadowing is not good. I also work part time at my school UNH, and work full time during the summer. I also did a little bit of theatre this summer as well as am an Eagle Scout. also any advice for O.Chem as I am conerned this class may hurt my G.P.A. I am considering almost everywhere for med school, and I ahte to be picky but I'd like to go somewhere warm. In addition as another option I was looking at Australia or the UK for schools outside the country as a second or even first option, but haven't found much information. Thank you for your help.

You're gpa is average, so I wouldn't worry about it too much, especially doing well in the core sciences. If you score MCAT on 30, I can promise you'll get in somewhere. The volunteer stuff is fine, as long as you've taken something meaningful out of the experience (lots of hourse means you should have something positive and worthwhile to say about the time there, hopefully it has at least affirmed your decision to pursue medicine and he should probably be one of your LOR's). Eagle scout is a small positive. All in all, you'll be competitive for many schools with a 30+ MCAT; if by "warm" places you mean CA, that'll be very difficult being out of state applicant with not the best credentials. I can't speak about the UK/Australia schools as I have no knowledge. Hope this helps.

Thank you it does very much. My knowledge of how effective foreign Med schools are is quite limited so thats why I ask and I would love to travel to another country. What I've heard though is if you get your licensing in a country you better stay there unless you wanna go through the hassle of becoming certified in America, but I am not really sure. Any advice on O.Chem would be helpful also because I hear it is a killer and would hate for it to drop my G.P.A. The doctor I work with is probably one of the coolest and funniest people I know. Not only does he allow me to help and observe but I think he enjoys it and is probably the biggest reason I am still in medicine. I hope to stick with him and who know maybe in 8 years or so we can work together. My advisors say I should "Volunteer" at a hospital selling stuff or making food while also shadowing. That is fine but I never saw how this was more effective than shadowing. I have probably learned so much more about medicine and ESPECIALLY patient contact from working with this doctor. Overall a great experience.
