I couldn't find a similar thread on how to actually do NIH, I'm not talking about a summer program but something during the year.

Someone told me that they have great opportunities for undergrad minorities so I should look into it so I went to the NIH website and found a search engine that you can put in your location and it finds places that have NIH funding. But once I do that, now what? Do I email all the PI's individually? Is there some kind of application on the website that I can't find?

Thanks in advance for responses! 🙂

I think this is what you are looking for: https://www.training.nih.gov/programs

Pick the training option that suits you best and apply. After applying you have to email PI's and it really just becomes a mess IMO. I emailed >30 PI's and heard back from like 2 or 3 saying they did not have funding and the rest just ignored the emails.

Hope that helps!

Yeah government grants are a crapshoot these days, and NIH just isn't getting enough money; getting a government grant is like applying to med school (almost). If you're lucky and find the right PI who's getting DoD (soldier casualty type of stuff), you might get something, but they definitely don't implement the same types of programs as NIH.
