One of my science teachers previously worked at the National Institute for Standards and Technology and told me that they offer research/internship programs to high schoolers of which I might be interested in doing. I was obviously very interested and am going to ask a group if I could join them shortly, but I wanted to hear what the SDN community has to say about it.

First off, will this help my eventual med school application? Can I even put this on the application if I do it the summer before my first year of UG? (Even if it doesn't I'd probably still do it).

I know most of the pros to doing this: real lab experience, connections, research in general etc. Just want to hear what you all think.

Lastly, has anyone else had the opportunity to work/internship for NIST? And how is it?

I can't read the link at the moment due to being on mobile, but if you were given a recommendation by a teacher, then go for it. Chances are you'll get a better chance of getting in since someone you know worked theren

If in High School, no.
If in Summer of Undergrad, yes.

No matter when you do it, it'll be good experience and you'll have fun.

Not at NIST. But I have had similar research experience.
