No electronic stethoscopes either for that matter. And there is a question about the use of hearing aids as well.

My question is, even with the room clock as "unofficial" time keeper, have any of you folks found that not being able to track the time well been an issue?

Just curious.

I took it back in November before they excluded the analog watches but honestly, i don't think i even used my watch much. They make time announcements throughout each encounter, so instead of using my watch i found that i was using those warnings as time markers. so if i heard the 5 minute warning announcement and i hadnt started the physical yet id just wrap up the history as id wash my hands and start the physical right away. or when id be typing my note, if i hadnt started the ddx and plan sections by the time of the 2 minute warning, id just finish up whatever i was typing and jump down and hurry to finish those sections. having the watch was probably a nice thing to have for peace of mind but i found myself tracking time with their official announcements and not my watch.

Just took CS two days ago.

Wasn't really bothered by not having a watch. The clocks are there in each room but...I used the intercom time warnings more.

Not having a watch is not as much of an issue in an of itself as it is just an escalation of the idiocy of the exam. I imagine the thought process being like this: "Lets see how well medical students do while facing bad actors in a foreign location in a timed situation.

Ok, for an even more realistic exam, lets ban watches.

Ok, these medical students keep jumping through these hoops...lets have them do it with one arm tied behind their backs.

Now, do you think will try it naked?
Hell, after paying 50k for four years, they have no choice!

Wow, naked watchless medical students are flocking to our doors and paying us 1k to do so! Lets see if they will sign away a random organ to get into the door."

I'm just a bit bitter about having spent 1k to have some test company "verify" the results of my schools OSCE. :beat:

I look at as a training tool. If you can't handle 8 hours of pain, awkwardness, and frustration, how are you going to deal with intern year? 😉

Show me the program that doesn't let you wear a watch.

Besides the inanity, I believe the "powers that be" are convinced that:

(1) using an analog watch can be a digital watch in disguise and therefore programmable with a plethora of information that can be used during the patient encounters.

(2) hearing aids can actually be a receiver for receiving information from your buddy at a computer command center parked in his truck/SUV several miles away (a la the Las Vegas professional gamblers who use this system to beat the house odds at the casinos).

(3) electronic stethoscopes - see #1 and #2 above.

Where anyone would have the time to input all this "stolen" data considering the time constraints, beats me.

But "we are not to question why, we are but to do or die."

Nu

I wonder how banning a hearing aid will pass under the ADA.

How am i supposed to escape through the window with my rocket propelled string with hook on the end which would allow me to elegantly repel down to the ground floor with the treasure?

OK, we know the exam would repel anyone taking it, but I believe you mean rappel. 🙂
