I was just reading about suggested interview techniques. One of the sources I have gives a little list of do's and don'ts for the interview day. Under "morning" it list's fairly obvious things like waking up early, not drinking more caffeine than you're used to, and getting to your destination on time. Then, with no explaination it states "Don't drink milk or eat any dairy produts". A little later under "lunch" some fairly sound advice is given - no stinky food, no alcohol, don't over eat etc. And then, once again, "no dairy". What am I missing here? Did I buy a vegan interview advice book or is there some property of dairy products that could be detrimental to a good interview? What's all this about?? 😕

lactose intolerance, probably.

dairy brings about those dreaded warm green clouds in closed rooms that can be the death of everyone in there .... for those of us w/slight lactose intolerance. 😀

Back in my high school days we band geeks would always abstain from drinking milk before band concerts. I believe the logic behind this was that dairy products interfere with saliva production, which would prevent us from playing our wind instruments to the best of our ability (the reed on saxophones/clarinets/oboes, etc. have to stay wet in order to work). Maybe this advice is based on the same belief about dairy, in that you are going to be talking a lot so any decrease in spit production would hinder your ability to communicate. I know whenever I give a speech and get nervous, my mouth gets all dry and it feels like I'm trying to talk through a mouthful of cotton.

Not sure if there's any truth to connection between dairy and spit, but I guess I wouldn't chug a glass of milk right before you meet your interviewer.

Maybe it's because milk isn't so good for your breath. All of that lactose gives the stinky bacteria in your mouth something to chew on. Unlike my standard lunch beverage, good ol' Diet Coke. 🙂

Apparently none of you have ever had football practice on a hot, humid August morning in Texas. A stomach full of milk and you're bound to vomit. Same goes for other stressful situations (like interviews). Don't ask me for the evidence on this, but I can speak from experience!!

PS-In the interest of full disclosure, I played football one year, in 7th grade. Then I spent high school in the marching band with the rest of the nerds....

When I was in high school our debate coach wouldn't let us have any dairy because she said it made you either produce more mucous or made it thicker - I can't remeber which....I am too burnt right now to thick that one through - but of course I have always believed it. Just like I never take a bath or talk on the phone in a thunder storm (thanx mom).
