I just wanted to start a thread that gave hope to all you three year applicants who want to go to dental school without first getting a degree.
I am in your same boat. I was not going to apply this year because I thought there would be little hope of any acceptance due to my lower GPA and lack of degree.
But I have recieved two interview invites already and one more on the way for sure.
Anyway GOOD LUCK to you all and just go for it!!

Do you mind telling us which two you get?
NIce, DAT score.

I think I've said it before to you SoCal but I'll say it again. I'm in the same boat as you and I hope we end up at Pacific together. I've got one interview to ASDOH so far. I know there is hope. I know quite a few dentists who never got their bachelors. Good Luck. Is Midwestern one of your interviews? If it is, let me know when you're coming into town. I can help you out.

This is a great thread; I'm currently a sophomore in college who plans to apply to dental schools this May. Medical College of GA is my state school, but what other (I'm assuming private) schools are notorious for accepting degree-less students? I've heard it can be very difficult to get accepted to MCG without a degree. So far, it looks like I will definitely be applying to Pacific.

My current GPA is a 3.74, and my sci. GPA should be around 3.70. I will be taking the DAT sometime in March. I think my chances are looking pretty good to get accepted to at least one school!

No bachelors? Two girls from my school was accetped to a dental school without receiving their bachelors. However, please know that post graduate schools require you have a bachelors in order to apply. In other words, no bachelors, no specialty.

Where do you come up with this stuff? Who are you sources? I know you like to help others, but please read, ask, and research before you post your thoughts.

I'm in a specialty (OMFS) where a medical degree is also granted in conjunction with my post-graduate training, I don't have a bachelors, and it was never even questioned in any of my post-graduate or medical school interviews?!

No dental specialties care, NO DENTAL SPECIALTIES CARE, if you have a bachelors degree or not. It is NOT a requirement to specialize reason being when you apply to specialties, they assume that you will have earned a DMD/DDS degree by the time you start. A doctorate degree is suffice to specialize, no one cares about a bachelors degree!

Thank you. You made it easy for me to not have to investigate the above mentioned claim. Good luck.

Sure.. its called a dental degree.

1. DDS/DMD/BDS: Undergraduate dental degree

2. MDSc/MSD/MSc: Graduate dental degree
(OMS, Perio, Pros, Ortho, etc.)

In order to be eligible for #2. you simply have to have #1.

thanks for that...I would have said the same.

OP, I'm in the same boat, I'm a rising Junior and applying with a 3.8ovr 3.7sci. I'm taking the DAT on the 6th. I don't know why more people do not apply early, I feel like I have an advantage because i'm 27, but I would think younger students who had their crap together would want to go ahead and get in. Good luck to everybody. I'm applying to Nova, UF, and Louisville.

I'm going to be applying to MCG, all the privates, and state schools in my vicinity which might accept out-of-staters (Alabama, Tennessee, North/South Carolina, etc.).

AWESOME! Thank God I am not the only one in this boat! It is relieving to see that you guys are getting some interviews! I will be retaking the DAT in November, due to sub-par scores, but I have my app in already. The only school that has turned me down is Loma Linda...which it seems they have turned down quite a few.

We just have to be on top of our game! Congrats on all of you who have gotten interviews! Good luck to everyone!
