so i graduated high school a semester early and that time plus summer has me a little scatterbrained. i'm still trying to get used to the fact that i'm going to school again. but not only that. i'm also trying to adjust to college in general. and then also i work 6 days a week which is fine. i can handle that and school. i'm just not really wanting to join any clubs or anything quite yet. i was going to hold off until next semester. i did this in high school as well. skip clubs first semester and joined in all of that my second semester and so on throughout high school. i searched this question in the search engine on my SDN app AND online and i couldn't find it. if there is already a thread on it i really do apologize! but does anyone know if me not really being too involved with campus clubs and events my first semester will hurt my application to med school when the time comes? like i said i'm trying to adjust and catch onto things here because college and high school are definitely not the same. thank you in advance! and i'm not trolling or anything, i swear. 🙂

Generally, being involved in clubs is such is not a very significant experience anyway. You should rather aim for tutoring, clinical and non-clinical volunteering, leadership roles in organizations/sports, research, shadowing physicians, etc.
But yeah, it's definitely ok to hold it off for later. You're only in your first semester; you should settle in before trying to put too much on your shoulders.

I only got involved in EC's during my sophomore year. Even then, my EC's were research based and not medical/clinical/volunteering. I only started to do "pre-med" activities my junior year when I realized that I wanted to attend medical school. So far, my application cycle is going well so schools aren't holding that against me. Keep in mind that I didn't apply straight out of college so I had a couple extra years to continue doing things.

Rofl first semester. I didn't start anything until I was a junior. Not that I'd recommend my approach, but you're fine OP.

clubs are kinda dumb anyway
do some clinical volunteering or get a relevant job if you can
