No II or R as of now, time to start thinking about the future?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
It's shrinking, but you still have a chance to get an II.

At the same time, start planning for a reapp. Look at your qualifications: Did you aim too high? Apply late? If you aimed too high, you should either improve your qualifications before applying or apply to programs where you are competitive. Did you apply to programs where you weren't a good fit based either on IS vs OOS stats or mission alignment? If so ... well don't make that mistake again.

And then there's presentation of your qualifications. Did you dig deep? Did you include both examples and reflection on those experiences in your experience descriptions, word limits permitting? Or did you just write the basics and perhaps a little what you thought the schools would want to hear.

Bottom line, start preparing to reapply. In the worst case, you'll put in a little unnecessary effort now and happily start med school in the summer. In the best case, you'll be in better shape for a reapplication.
