Did you guys know that there are schools that accept students without interviews? I didn't know that... I just found out that NYU accepts some students without an interview, a small percentage nonetheless. But still... I thought interviews were required at all schools. Does any other schools follow this guideline?

Yeah... thas what the person at the admissions office told me...

It is definitely true...a guy down here at UF got acceptance without needing to go to the school. He has a 4.0, three years of dental research, I volunteer with him in a pediatric clinic here at UF dental school. I'm not sure if hes even set on NYU, but I'm sure NYU would love to have him.

I have a friend who was the first on the waiting list for Creighton who didn't have an interview with them. He did talk to them a lot on the phone, but never had a real interview. If one more person had given up their acceptance he would have been in. Actually I hear you have to schedule your own interview at Creighton. True?

I called Creighton and was told that an official interview is not part of the acceptance process! They said any interested individual is more than welcome to set up a visit where they will get a tour of the campus and talk to the dean, but it is not required for admission. I have heard it can really boost your chances however if you take the initiative to do that much! Now I am just trying to decide if I want to buy a ticket out there or not without knowing if the admissions comm is even interested in my application.

so its possible that you dont hear ANYTHING from NYU and come December 1st, receive an acceptance letter?!?????

I just received a letter from NYU saying that my application had been reviewed and that I would be considered for admission without an interview. What that means.... I dunno. I'm not sure if thats good or bad news to be honest.

Oh My God! That is the MOST terrible news I've heard on SDN!

If I were you, I'd be :scared: :scared: :scared:

You are being considered for admission without an interview. Good Luck, your gonna need it!

I feel guilty for recognizing your SDN name - but yeah, funny!

Depends on your grades. If you have a 2.5, i'd say you're rejected. If you have a 3.8, I'd say you're in. If you have a 3.3.... i have no clue 😀

That's awesome! 🙂 I've always wondered what kinda stats are needed to be considered for acceptance w/o an interview (I guess the more specific question is -- I wonder if I have a chance at that, hahaha). Do you mind posting what your stats are, Mr. Peter North 😉 If you don't want to share, that's cool. But if you don't mind sharing, even better. But yeah, I couldn't make up my mind about whether being accepted w/o an interview would be a good thing or bad thing, either... I guess the obvious answer is that it's a great thing, but there are so many other factors to consider..

GPA 3.8, BCP = 3.9, 21,21,19. Nothing incredible so I'd guess you would receive the same. I got my app in pretty early so that might have something to do with it. As for the screename, I mean come on, Peter North is THE MAN. hahaha

Cheers

I was also sent that same letter.

What about people that were on the waitlist last cycle that received the letter saying they have been moved to the 2006 cycle waitlist? Does this mean they don't have to interview, or does it mean that they have no chance at acceptance unless it is off of the waitlist next summer? SIU also doesnt require and interview.

Very cool. Thanks for the info 🙂 I guess I'll keep on checking the mail anxiously every afternoon. Hahaha, waiting sucks pretty hard.

While SIU doesnt require an interview, they interview any candidate on the fence. I go to SIUE, the school affiliated with the dental school. I have a 4.0 and scored 19/19/19 on the DAT. My friend does not have quite as good numbers: 3.5 and 16/18/17 and she has been requested for interview. Basically they feel that they can figure out who they want by an application and if your on the fence it can really help you out.

Wow, are you serious? I talked to someone with 20s DAT that was interviewed back in Auguest and she's an IL resident too. I'm out of stater but I live like 30 minutes away from SIU.

Just so you guys know I do believe there was a guy on here last year who got into NYU without an interview and his stats weren't super amazing.
I think he had a 22 on the DAT and a 2.9 GPA. There was also a guy who got a 100k scholarship, it might have been the same guy.

Was the 100k from NYU??

Here in Trinidad(caribbean), we get acceptances based solely on merit.
No interviews. A short personal statement is required howeve,r but only used in borderline cases.
