With my sub 3.0 gpa and not bad dat (22/23/28),
i was expecting NYU to be the school with the greatest chance for me.
Now im hopeless with the rejection.
Has anyone seen someone with similar stats as mine got at least an interview?
Is being canadian really disadvantageous?

I'm sorry to hear that. When did you hear from them?
I'm waiting for their rejection letter too.

Yes, I think that with your gpa would be a recipe for a really hard time getting into dental school. Just for some perspective, think about all the U.S. people applying, then think about all the Canadians applying - the ones with the really high gpas are going to get last licks, so to speak. Sorry!!

Just today, the letter was sent last week 5th, but then it took some time bc im currently staying overseas.

Nothing to be sorry, you are telling the truth.
Its not that i wasn't completely aware of it, but there were some ppl who told me i would stand some chance in some schoools.

yea, 3 is low...do a masters program

Yea..def. low..
I had an upward trend with my last two years averaging around 4.0.
I was hoping some school would buy that, but maybe it wasn't good enuff.
Im thinking about the masters like you said, however it won't change the gpa much since the credits i earned so far are way too many.
Some ppl say its to show my capability and trend, but obviously this year adcom wasn't interested in my trend, so now im more worried if its worth it.

A master's GPA would give you a completely separate GPA, it would not get hidden in your undergrad course work. For what it's worth, NYU actually picked up their stats a lot -- their average GPA has been around 3.6 for the last 3 years, with DATs averaging around 21. You'll want to look at schools that like high DAT scores--Columbia, Temple, USC, NYU (sheer class size here), Nova, etc.

So do schools that look at a MS gpa ignore the undergrad GPA or do they put less emphasis on it?

I have a 4.0 gpa in my master's program and I believe they still look at undergrad gpa (3.2). I have a 20 DAT (which isn't anything to brag about, but is MUCH higher than what I got the first time).

I've only had 2 interviews so far and one of them talked to me about my undergrad gpa.

Also, many schools look at overall gpa and do not look at how it was affected by either undergrad or grad gpa. My 39 credits of 4.0 have not really helped my overall gpa too much.

I doubt any ignore undergrad. Some average and some observe each separately. Doc may have a chart for this.

That's interesting, I would think you would have had a couple more too.

Yeah, if they just average out the two degrees then the masters program/gpa isn't really beneficial (especially if you have like 130+ credits in undergrad and only 30 in a masters program)

A MSc degree is not simply about boosting one's GPA. It's much more than that and shows you're motivated to do whatever it takes to gain admission. It also opens you up to the world of research and gives you skills that someone fresh out of undergrad probably doesn't have. It's not merely a numbers thing..

yeah..did my undergrad lil longer than anyothers...6 years..
got like 160 credits while the requirement was 130.
i totally ruined my first two years, its like 1 ( yea im talking about gpa if you are doubting😀)
3rd year 3.0, 4th 3.3, 5th 3.7, 6th 4.33.
but ya know...having 1 for the first two years is like XXXX!!!!

my sgpa is 2.9, ogpa 2.97

No, I wasn't doubting...I was just surprised you got nothing from it. That's bullshiz with a z.

Oh i said it just in case you were not familiar with the use of numeric number 1 as gpa😀
Certainly have seen no one with two years of gpa averaging 1 who still wanna be a dentist..so i was clarifying for you😀

Ive applied to all the school you mentioned except Nova, and already got two rejections (NYU, Temple). With some ppl saying "if you are rejected by NYU, your chance of getting into dentistry is non existance" it can't be more depressing.

Did you apply to schools with lower averages such as Howard or Meharry?

I don't know why no one likes NYU. I thought it was one of the best personally.

So being Canadian hurts?
From what I heard NYU doesn't give US citizens priority before Canadians...
As a Canadian predent this is all very interesting to me.

IMO the 3.0 probably hurt more than being Canadian.
Congrats on those last 2 years! Did you apply to Canadian schools that look at last 2 years? UWO, Saskatchewan and Dalhousie (I think)

I think it worked out in complementary way.
If i had really good stat, they wouldn't care which nationality i had.
but since im canadian who got the lowest gpa, they prolly hated me😀

I didn't apply to Canadian school, my cDAT wasn't so great for the academic part (19 or 20). i might apply to UBC where i got my degree from next year after retaking cDAT.
