Hey, just thought I'd start a new thread for those of us (like myself) who filled out multiple secondaries and don't have any interviews yet. It's frustrating, disheartening and discouraging. I know with my stats, I might have just ended up making a few thousand dollar donation to american med schools, but hell, if one of the criteria for an interview was desire and passion, I'd be in!!!

Anyways, just thought I'd start something dedicated to moral support during this long process...🙁

I'd never done Yoga until I was in MedSchool. Wich I'd known about it during the App season.

Run, Gym, Golf, be mobile and it will go easier. Of course, it will still suck and you will still check your email incessantly, but you can do that in between holes.

It's even worse if you have a blackberry or PDA. Everytime I hear that jingle telling me I have a new email, I about freak out.

haha, I've been complete at 20 schools ranging from 3 weeks to 2 months, and most of them have been handing out interviews like candy. I on the other hand have NONE from those schools. And to make matters worse, I have very decent stats ( lots of ppl with similar or lower stats have multiple interviews), and I have a Iphone to constantly disapoint myself with.

Alas, I work and go to the gym as much as I can to try and forget about this whole thing. I HATE waiting. And I think all med schools hate me lol

Good luck, ziggy. Just stay positive and active.

Stay positive people. They will come.:luck:

Def. joining this club. And I thought I was a neurotic mess before....
The mobile email access definitely makes it worse too.

Every morning I wake up and instantly check my inbox like it's Christmas morning or something. Instead of finding good (or any) news from my schools, I just find a bunch of junk. it's sort of like expecting an awesome gift, ripping it open and discovering you've been given socks. Weird analogy, I know, but for some reason that's what this process reminds me of...

The worst part is I'm out in the middle of nowhere, so there's really nothing to do but obsess...

I think just about everyone who post regularly on SDN should get into med school. I mean we are so obessed with it. Idk what else passion look like lol

Get a desk job and keep your email open in a browser tab. Then every time you get a new email you'll get super excited, only to be let down because Dale Lacy wanted to tell you how Colo Cleanse Plus changed his lifestyle for the better.

If you want to be superobsessive, get Trillian. If you have a yahoo mail account, every time a new email arrives in your inbox, you will get a little pop up on your computer screen that notifies you and tells you who the sender of the message is. You can route other email accounts to deliver to your yahoo account, as well.

I have actually had it for several years just because I wanted aim/yahoo messenger without having two different windows up for each service, but I guess this is an added perk for those who care enough to download it for this reason.

Yeah, better yet I'm in the Mid-west so I freak until the East closes. Then half of my hope dies and waits for the west closing time before being completely demoralized for the day. Then repeat it again next day.

I agree that everyone on SDN has enough passion and drive to get in. Too bad there's some kind of X factor to this process.

Let's drink poison Kool-Aid

u totally read my mind! whenever i get a new email i just skim through the whole thing to get to the word interview and so far none 🙁

it sucks specially reading that every school that i've applied to (actually most of them) already sent out interviews to a bunch of people and im either on hold, or just ignored

Don't mean to get ahead of myself, but does anyone know approximately at what time without an interview invite I should consider reapplying? Ie. if I don't hear anything by ________ I'm probably out for this year.

same here, man.

I know the feeling of being addicted to email among other things due to the internet which is my top reason for not getting a iphone/blackberry or whatever because I rather not have the ability to access the internet anywhere and everywhere I go.

Interviews will come guys, be patient. I know I got really lucky....I know it gets frustrating seeing the same 15-20 names post on the interview threads (over and over again), but I just assume that this early in the application cycle they will interview the most competitive candidates. At least this feeling is what helps me sleep at night....

Whenever I am obsessively checking my email, I get nothing. But it's like as soon as I stop worrying about it, I suddenly get an invite.

I completely agree.

it sounds as though this has happened to you on multiple occassions.

I don't know about you guys, but I dont think even when you have 10 interviews, you will stop checking your email obsessively. Perhaps after the first acceptance? I kinda hate myself right now, if I don't have access to a computer, I end up calling my gf and have her check! I am going insane!

Even worse than waiting for interviews is being waitlisted at your top choice. Every time you get a call from a number with that area code you freak out and answer the phone all excited, just to get crushed.

Yes definitely. This cycle has started off better than I could have ever hoped, yet it's only made me greedy for more interviews.

Count me in for the OCD email checking... hopefully i'll have better luck this cycle...

i'd say i check roughly 3-5 times a day per school, more for my *top choices* and also whenever someone posts they've gotten an interview invite, i always immediately double-check status and spam box...

do i have a problem? lol...

All that e-mail checking makes the acceptance e-mail so much sweeter

We're now entering September and I still have 1 interview out of 33 schools I applied to (and was complete very early)

One for 25 here, and yes VERY early completion at most of them...

Do they hate us or do they hate us?

Equally distressed here. I know it's early in the game...but WE were early in the game too.

What's the likelihood of an admissions committee digging up our applications and giving them a second look?

well, 1 is better than 0, i'm 0 for 31 (or rather 28 considering the 3 rejections)

in. filled out 30 some secondaries and no invites yet 🙁

I just got an email alert that I *think* is about an interview, but gmail is down so I can't check it! Lol this would happen to me...I've been monitoring the email like 24/7 for the last 2 weeks, and when i finally get an email, I can't check it. Great.

I don't know why people are saying it's "early" in the game.

Gazillions of people hold multiple invites who just completed their app but I was complete at most schools in early July

For those of you who are suffering because gmail is down: you can use igoogle as a workaround to check your mail. =)

Hey,

i applied to 32 schools. most of them complete by End of July, Early August. 0 Interviews so far. Given my average stats/Ec, I get it.

But here's my question: So they passed my app early in the game, for the people with the stronger numbers and ECs. Understandable. They want to interview the best applicants, early on. That said, where does my app stand now? Will they come back and review it through a subcommittee, or is it a silent rejection? Or is this process generally unknown? Varies between schools?

I just find it doubtful--don't know if my doubt is legitimate--that they will come back to my app, even as their application pile becomes greater and greater over the months ahead.

It is, for everyone put on hold. I'm in the same boat, and that's basically the same thing that's been bugging me: It's impossible to know. Status pages are impossibly vague, and schools' conceptions of "on hold" vary significantly. And the process itself really is variable between schools too; some will inform applicants of their decision within weeks of being complete (TCMC, for example), while others won't bother to send a rejection notice. Ever.

I'd almost prefer they just tell us straight away if our app. will likely be trashed/ignored, rather than leaving us in limbo. Something like "Based on last year's cycle, applicants with your credentials are generally reviewed very late and generally do not recieve interviews." or "Your application has been placed on hold as we review other applicants. Your file will be re-reviewed in X month, at which time we will make our final decision".

They already have our money, if that was a reason for sending everyone secondaries. If they have no realistic plans to interview certain applicants (who've passed their screens), or even look at their apps, why lead them on? It seems like the decent thing to do would be to let people know exactly where they stand (VCU does an awesome job of this), rather than filling them away and forgetting about them...

I agree completely. I find it extremely unethical and morally ambiguous that schools asking for $100+ for an application are not willing to be clear about their intentions.

i was actually going to start a thread like this today! so glad someone already made it....i def check my email about 10 times a day...ive only been complete at schools for a little, but i am already impatient. Seeing some people that send in their secondaries and get interview invites 3 days later is freaking me out...😱

Yea last year I spent all my time obsessively wondering when I would get interviews. Then I realized I actually had to apply first.

To all of you guys worried, just remember the worst that happens is you don't get interviewed. Big deal. Who wants to interview anyway?
