Wow that is seriously sad. One of the more competitive fields in pathology is getting overwhelmed with applications. Why bust your arse for a fellowship when down the road you have to compete with many, many other applicants for a job? I don't understand why GI pathology even has to pay 350K to lure in candidates. I think if they pay 150K-200K, 9-5 pm, no weekends, no call, you will get a response as well. Hopefully, these subspecialty fields wont deteriorate as well (not sure if it has yet)?

I agree with you though - this is a symptom of larger problems in pathology.
