finally im done with this burden!
AA 19
TS 19
B 17
C 19
OC 20
RC 20
QR 17
PAT 18
I guess now its my turn to give you my spill on the dat and all my tendancies. First let me say thanks to all the help on this site.

Heres my story.
I took the DAT originally in christmas with only about 4 weeks of studying with big blue book and topscore only, i did horrible on topscore tests and ended up with a 16AA,15PAT. So, obviously i had to retake.

I basically set aside JUNE AND JULY with nothing but studying, basically about 5 hrs. per day. until the last few weeks, like 6-10 hrs/day. I also enrolled in the KAPLAN course and this helped a ton! at least for me, b/c i went to juco first 2 years and didnt have great teachers in chem, and ochem.

now to the practice tests. heres what i was making(keep in mind i had already seen topscore in x-mas break)
B C OC RC QR PAT
Kaplantest 1 16 15 17 15 15 20
Kaplanfinal 20 17 17 17 18 21
Topscore1 17 15 15 18 18
Topscore2 17 16 16 18
ADA booklet 19 18 19 24
Real Deal 17 19 20 20 17 18

going in to this thing i felt i would do really well on bio and math. and bad on chem and o-chem. it went complete oppisite.

BIO
Study all the weird genetics stuff. not just tests crosses . ie(alleles, homologous chromosomes, etc) kaplan didnt do a great job covering this subject. i had some really weird questions, hardest section!

CHEM
Very basic, too basic. no big calculations at all, just like everyone says, i have never scored over a 17 on any practice tests and i got a 19(WOW!)
nothing i didnt know about

OCHEM
easiest section. also, when i was a juco my organic chemistry was a joke, so, i basically memorized the kaplan reactions this summer, and nothing tricked me on the test, suprised me alot.

PAT- wasnt too bad other than the angles and top front end views. my computer resolution sucked!

RC- i have never scored over 18 on this and somehow i got a 20. my first passage was word for word, very very easy, 100% correct, but the 2nd passage was all main idea, 3rd was a mixture of the 2.

QR- I studied this very hard this past week, thought i did better than i did. i was hoping for a 20 on this but got a 17. i had 2 Quarter nickel dime problems and zero town A town B mph problems! alot of algebra, just reducing.

i finished the science with 10 min left, PAT with 15 min left, Reading with 5 min left and QR with 5 min left. this past week i took about 5 complete tests all the kaplan online ones, acethedat(which is horrible) just to get used to sitting there that long. it payed off, i didnt get tired at all, i could have gone another 4 hrs.!!!

anyways, after this year i will graduate from texas a&m with biomedical science major. currently 4.0 science gpa and 3.82 overall. i want to go to san antonio becuase my twin brother just started there this year, hopefully i will be getting an interview soon!

Congratulations on your scores, BAJackson16 ! Let your mind rest and be forever free of the little voice in the back of your head cooing "You should really be reading Kaplan..."

Congrats!!

I guess you can throw this quote out the window:

If you are talking about the practice test that is in the registration booklet, then your scores on the actual exam will probably be 2-3 points lower.

some people messaged me about more detail about the biology.
there were really off the wall questions. just read carefully. the genetics i had at least 3 crosses and just some other random stuff. sorry, i cant remember specifics its been a long day for me. i had about 4 evolution and divergent convergent type questions and one taxonomy question!!! good grief i put way too much time in for that section.
just remember, the test bank is random, yalls questions might be different

awesome man! u did great..it's a good feeling now that it's over isn't it? man ur gpas kick major ass! im sure u'll get in wherever u want! way to go man!

congrats BAJackson, I hope I can do as wel as you did in one week. I took two topscores so far and I scored similar to you, so hopefully my scores will be just as good.

Hey BAJackson, I forgot to ask:

In the genetics question, I haven't really reviewed Genetics too much, how do you do the crosses that are like this: RRYY X rryy, just as an example? Also, as far as convergent, divergent, parallel evolutions, they just expect us to know the definitions or what? What kind of taxonomy did they have...anything off the wall like in topscore (i.e. what kind of muscles do Turbatrix and Nematoda have?) Sorry for bombarding you with so many questions. Thanks in advance. Congrats again!
👍

the taxonomy wasnt off the wall, pretty straight forward. the Aggg X AAgg
did show up and i tried to figure it out the night before the test. it gave you all these ratios. I used to remember , but its been a year since i had genetics class. Sorry i cant help more. Good luck to everyone.

by the way, on the reading , i didnt read anything, i just read the question and searched , by the end of the questions you pretty much have read it a few times anyways, and also i didnt write anything down on paper, that takes too long, i just had an idea in my head where it was on the page.

Way to go! I can't wait to be where you are and not have to worry about it anymore. I take my test this friday, so everyone be expecting another post about the test that afternoon (if I'm still conscious) or whenever they revive me if I'm not 🙂 . One question I have is about your reading passages, did you get the ones about the solar system and stock market like other people have posted. I'm a bit concerned on this section because I do very well on word for word like topscore, but not well at all on concept, idea, and intention questions like Kaplan. Again, good job! 👍

Way too go BAJACKSON, where did you take your Kaplan class at. or did you?

Your GPA is really good, so that should get you in the door at all 3 schools. Have fun trying to choose between schools.

Wish me luck everyone, I need it. taking my DAT on Saturday.

the genetics promblem

RRYY x rryy

don't you just take the two traits and figure out the four possible combinations.

make your punnet square. on top it would be RY, Ry, rY, ry
on the side of the square it would RY, Ry, rY, ry

again I could be wrong.

Actually for a dihybrid cross, you take the first with the third, the first with the fourth, the second with the third, and the second with the fourth. So for AaBb, you would put AB Ab aB ab on that side of the square.
The cross mentioned just turns out to be an easy one where RY is the only type from the first and ry is the only from the second. It essentially breaks down to a simple cross where 100% of F1 is RrYy. I sped through that, I hope i got it right.

they way they show it is exactly they way that I said how to do it.

I feel like the blind is leading the blind here.

anyone can concur!

I think I am right here.

it would be 100 % RrYy in the F1. From the RRYY, you can only get RY gametes. So RY goes on one side of the punnet. Now for the rryy, you can only have ry gametes, so that goes on the other side of the punnett. Now you do the cross and u get only RrYy.
the square looks like this:
RY RY
ry
ry

to verify u can use the 2 the nth rule, where is the number of heterozygous alleles.

RRYY, there are no heterzygous alleles, so thats 2 to the 0 power.

rryy, again no heterzygous alleles, so thats 2 to the 0 power.

2 to the 0 power=1

so 1x1 equals the number of genetically distinct offspring. i.e. 1 offspring and that is RrYy.

thanks guys,

the reading i had was on protiens/ enzymes, and another was on bacterial diseases(strept, ecoli, etc.) i forgot the other one, i didnt read them, lol

by the way my gpa is that high is b/c i went to junior college 1st 2 years , it was waaay too easy, i just had to go there b/c i play baseball and thats where i had signed out of highschool. free school , so i had to choose it. but i had to reteach myself chem and orgo this summer thats the only bad thing.

any more questions ill be on the rest of the night
