Hey guys/gals,

Im pretty sure most people who are trying to go to med school next year have finished applying. I applied to 30 med schools (and got like 28 secondaries). I applied to 27 of those 28 and I finished the last few ones late july/early august. Since then I have gotten a rejection and a hold, but dead silence from the other schools. Im not panicking yet, but I am growing a bit concerned. I realize many of these med schools have a large volume of applications but I was sure that when I had finished my secondaries that many people were saying I finished with probably the first 25 to 35 percent of applicants. So i guess what I am asking is this dead silence from the majority of our applied schools normal? (Obviously glad I am not getting a string of rejections, but I really can't help feeling extremely anxious after every day of opening my email and not seeing anything). Id appreciate some feedback on this, thanks!

Welcome to the medical school application process!

Silence is very normal. If schools allow pre-interview updates, you may go to that route. But otherwise, we just have to wait.

yea welcome to the waiting club
there are thousands of us

the fact that you havent gotten any rejects is good

This is normal for this time of year.
Thank you gyngyn for yor learned advice/knowledge for something even as basic as this. It has a calming effect on us anxious applicants.

It most likely means that your application falls in between "OMG - We've got to snag this guy right now before some other school does!" and "WTF is this doofus thinking applying here? We can reject him right away." Most likely, the rationale is somewhere along the lines of "AMCAS is really SLOW this year. Let's get a few hundred more apps in and see what this year's applicants look like before sending out the next batch of invites."

I am debating if that's exactly what Mayo was thinking when they saw my app..

😀 also my case... but Mayo has a really small class size, so they have a right to be selective. I have respect to them for such a high-turnover rate.

Yup, I have like no idea where I stand with my application. I feel that it is either way too good for some schools, and way too bad for others. I have gotten a couple rejections from dream schools though, and two interview invites from middle ground schools, so I guess thats better than nothing.

Thanks for your support guys, really helps put my anxiety at bay. I hope the schools pick it up soon and we all get in to the schools we would like to attend. Best of luck to u all! Hopefully the next time we talk will be discussing which schools we are going to.

I am right there with you. I got my first rejection today and I have one II from my IS school. The silence is killing me.
