I was wondering if not having an undergrad degree would affect ones chances of specializing. I was also wondering if any dental schools actually grant an undergrad degree to students that do not yet have a degree after completion of dental school??? Anyone heard of this?

I am pretty sure it is extremely difficult to get into school without an undergrad degree. I think both schools I applied to require a degree.

I am pretty sure you can't get into dental school without an undergrad degree, let alone specialize.

I would definitely double check your statement and then verify them again before you throw misleading info out to others.

Then again, you're from SC, can't expect much from y'all.

Not having an undergraduate degree would not hurt your chances of specializing as long as your dental school grades and dental national board scores are excellent!

I have heard of dental school granting a BS degree for student entering dental school without a BS, but those students are in the "early admission/dual admission" programs. For example, at NSUCDM, we take in 5 dual-admit students from NSU undergrad, all 5 of them do not have their bachelor's degree when they start dental school, but at the end of their first year of dental school, they receive a BS in Biology.

Other dental schools may have the same program, but again, it's only resort to dual-admit students.

How do you get in without having a degree? I know people get in before completing their degree, but how do you get in without ever getting one?

Some schools have as much as 1/4th of their classes without bachelors degrees.

There are some programs that I have heard that for the specialties that grant you an MS, they will also require you to meet the graduate college requirements also which are to have a BS or BA, not just the dental school, I do believe that those programs are far and few though. I would also think that for the OS programs that do the MD thing, some of the Medical schools will probably look for a bachelors, who knows

I went to dental school without a degree. My undergrad awarded me a BS after the first year of science. My undergrad allowed me to transfer dental school classes and counted them towards my total science hours.

I would weigh a DMD more than a BS too, good pt. Sounds like you have been there done that
