Hello guys,

Please excuse my ignorance but I found this list online of international med schools approved by the state of California
http://www.medbd.ca.gov/applicant/schools_recognized.html

Does this mean that if you graduate from one of these schools you can practice in California without having to take the USMLE ? if not then what does that list mean ?

Thanks in advance

NO!😱 It means that your medical degree will only be recognized if you graduated from one of those schools. You will have to take all steps of the USMLE. If you graduated from a medical school that isnt on this list, it doesnt matter how well you did in school or the USMLE, you will not be able to practice in California.

That list is of the only "approved" schools... all other schools are "un-approved". USMLE is still required for medical licensing.

there is definitely a way to practice medicine in CA without taking the USMLE

And what might that be?

Some states have a way to grant a medical license "by eminence", rather than by taking the US Medical Licensing Exam and completing a residency.

eminence: noun /ˈemənəns/
eminences, plural

Fame or recognized superiority, esp. within a particular sphere or profession
- her eminence in cinematography

An important, influential, or distinguished person
- the Lord Chancellor canvassed the views of various legal eminences

That means NOT FOR YOU.

Yes. Graduate as a DO and take the COMLEX for licensure.

I was gonna say that and post a troll face

There is a way to practice without either........but I doubt it would last too long before you are arrested.
