A friend of mine considers a nocturnist job and he is offered 1150&/12h shift, no PTO, covers 2 hospitals 15 miles apart, average 5 admisisons/night and 30 cross-cover pages/night from the floor. He is a expert admitter, stayed in ER to do admissions during the last year.

Is It a competitive salary for a experienced hospitalist and expert admitter like him?

I read somewhere they pay 1400-1600/12h night shift. This pay is too low in my point of view.

Beggars can't be choosers.

I want a unicorn and a blowjob for every night shift I work.

But I settle for the $1100 I get paid because I generally don't have to leave the call room more than 2 or 3 times a night and usually get 3-4 hours of sleep.

And if your "friend" is so amazing "he" should be able to get a "better" job "anywhere."

I am currently a nocturnist and get 1200/shift. No significant diffference from that offer.

1500 is the top-pay for a 12 hour shift at a private hospital in my area. Most are 1100-1250. So, yeah, your range of 1400-1600 isn't too rediculous, you just aren't likely to get that much right out of residency
